| Anger and violence begets more anger and violence. What are we teaching kids when we scream at them? That adults want them to solve problems in a rude and disruptive way? That obedience can be achieved by bullying and intimidation? This is the type of actions that encourage the incivility and injustice that is present practically everywhere today. There is no excuse for a teacher to shout at a student unless that student is literally hard of hearing. If a student misbehaves then privileges need to be taken away until they are earned back as a reward for good behavior. Teachers that bully rather than provide a healthy environment for learning need to be evaluated, reprimanded and re-trained or demoted. If the child won't respond to positive stimulation then the child needs to be instructed in a more forceful manner that is within legal boundaries which is determined and administered by the parents. Then there would be no reason for a teacher to take such drastic and unethical actions.Personally if a child was being disruptive and unresponsive I would remove that child from the classroom so he/she doesn't interfere with the learning of the other children. They don't pay teachers enough to be educators and enforcers of behavior that should have already been taught to the child by the parents. However, if the teacher is shouting simply because the child isn't as quick or as bright as the other children then that teacher is a sub-par human being who shouldn't have the privilege of teaching.

| I think if the teacher thinks its justified, they should be allowed to shout as loud as they like.Perhaps if more teachers shouted then children would be better behaved.I frequently remember teachers shouting when I was at school but I never got shouted at because I actually behaved myself.Children need discipline in school, not kid gloves.School is all about preparing you for work, you cant just do whatever you want at work so why should you be allowed to at school?

| I agree with the asker. And to some of the answerers: Oh yeah, I'm sure people in gangs had perfect happy lives where no one was ever mean to them including their parents and that's why they joined a gang. Sure.

| I think nobody should yell at eachother inless it has to be done. If someone is in a bad sistuation they made need to yell. Maby she needed to get her angers out. But dont think its neccsearry to yell.

| As a teacher, and reading some of these posts, I am ready to throw my hands up in despair! Yes children do need discipline.... shouting is not necessarily an appropriate form of discipline though! I can honestly say I have never "shouted" at a child in 13 years of teaching.... all it conveys is that the teacher has lost control.... how do you gain respect by showing that loss of control? Simple, you don't!A much more effective method is by actually lowering your voice an octave or two, and by simple body language! This may make the child feel sad at the time, but is not long lasting! However, children do not necessarily feel sad for the rest of the day, after being disciplined by a teacher... it very much depends on how they deal with the child afterwards. Taking them aside, discussing what had occurred, and role modeling appropriate behaviours. Also finding something positive that the child has done, and praising them on that.

| Yes, the shouting should be turned down, but we do need disapline in schools, as you can see from what is happerning in schools. I come fron a Chav school, and it's really bad what loads of teenagers are doing!
