Children with Autism or children that are SED (severely emotionally disturbed) and/or ODD (oppositional defiant disorder)? I have only worked with SED and ODD kids but I'm thinking about working with kids with Autism.

I work with kids that are autistic and it is hard. The autism is different with each of our kids. I have also worked with ED kids witch is also very hard. They are hard but in different ways. ED kids can be violent, but so can autistic kids. e-mail me and I can tell you some of the things I have dealt6 with. It would be wrong to post it here.

I would recommend you get experience with kids who have Autism as this is the most growing area of need in the U.S. at present. It would be difficult to say which group is the most challenging. Experience will help you decide where you best fit. Good luck.

Each person, just like each disability, is different and can be dealt with in different ways. ODD has always been hard for me. However, have you ever worked with somebody with PWS? Good Lord! Prader Willi Syndrome has got to be the worst disability ever. I have been in working with people with disabilities for over 20 years, and by far PWS is the worst.Good luck. Just remember that they are individuals. Try different reinforcers for new behaviors. I had one client that absolutely hated candy....had to come up with something different. PWS folks shouldn't have candy so again we had to come up with something different. I'm sure you will find the perfect place for yourself. Have you ever tried working with adults?
