Windows Vista slow startup?

I just bought my laptop a few weeks ago. Yes is came with Vista so my laptop is compatible. I noticed at startup, it's really slow. Let me explain - I type my password in when I try to log on and from there, I just get to a blank screen. It takes about a little over a minute just to get to my startup screen. From there, everything is fast to load. My internet connection is instant and yahoo messenger already logs in. My sidebar is already there. I'm just wondering why whenever I try to log in after I type in my password, a blank screen just sits there for a little over a minute.

dump vista [or atleast wait till a service pack] and get linux!!

i have vista too and i noticed that, but then i made it so yahoo and aim and some other programs didn't start up when i started my computer and it runs just fine now. it lags the computer a lot.

It's loading your user files and settings. If everything is fast after that, I wouldn't worry.
