Can i use a D-Link dl604 router with a 2wire home portal 1100 modem?

 Can i use a D-Link dl604 router with a 2wire home portal 1100 modem? my old modem blew up so i swapped it with a 2wire home portal 1100 that i found. I can only connect 1 computer through ethernet to this modem. For some reason when i plug my router in to the modem, i get no connection.I figured since there is a USB out and an ethernet out, on the back of the modem that it had some sort of built in router in it. Do i need to turn DHCP off in the modem, so it allows the router to assign my IP?
