| I don't understand. Accept the fact that you have light skin. I mean, okay, there is nothing wrong with tanning in the sun on the beach, but I think that going to tanning salons in the winter and using lotion to make you appear more tan is too much, and way too desperate. In many countries where people living there have darker skin usually want lighter skin. Here in America it is way different. Is it because of some of the tanned celebrities we know? Or are we brain washed into thinking that tanned is better? Where I live, so many people are taunted for having light skin.just because you have light skin it doesn't mean that you look like a ghost

| i don't really know why but i don't want to be tan. pale skin is treasured from where i'm from and where i'm from, dark skin means you are a poor farmer b/c you had to work out in the sun alot

| I go tanning because I have a bad complexion and tanning hides it a little. If I didn't I wouldn't. And I know its not helping my complextion, just hiding it, but i don't care.

| I don't know, but I'm tired of hearing about it and seeing orange people walking around. It's just not natural and it's not attractive. They'll realize their mistake when their skin is like leather when they're older haha

| cuz they think its cool to be a darker color like people like us.. its not.. thats trying to be something you are not.. there is nothing wrong with having light skin but its dumb to tan and come out looking orange like a damn oompaloopma or however you spell it...people need to be happy with what skin color you have.. i understand if you are extremely pale then thats ok to tan a lil bit but not to the point were you look like a damn orange.

| light white skin isn't very flattering.. unless you're a brunette or redhead in which case it looks nice. i really don't care about tanness (if that's even a word..) but i do like skin that has a pink golden hue to it, so a little bit of tanning is nice... but you're right, the brown and bronze are not attractive.. and will be even less attractive in 20 years when they have alligator skin!

| i know! i'm not tanned at all so i don't really care. yes, i think people are indeed brainwashed into thinking that tan is better b/c that's how our society has come to be. it's just nonsense. i'll admit that i would like to be tan b/c everyone else wants to be but since my skin burns and doesn't tan(for some odd reason) i don't really care if i'm a bit paler than other people. i wish our society just wouldn't care about how other people look so we could concentrate on the more important things. i like to get all prettied up every day, but that's how i and everyone else were raised to do. i hate how it works...

| The thing is that even if people know that they have a really high chance of getting skin cancer (i'm not kidding and being paranoid. It's totally easy to get skin cancer) we're totally influence by the media. I know, ok, so every school has tons and tons of discussing about not to be influenced so much by the media - the media makes people look overly beautiful, that's not how they really are and blablabla (no offense, but really, that's how teens hear it). The thing is, being dark is being cool. it's showing you "really, really" are a beach girl (or guy) and those happen to be oh-so cool. And not only are like all of the "cool" guys on TV tanned and beautiful, a lot of guys who like the outdoors (cool) like girls that like the outdoors (also cool) which means they spend time in the sun (very cool) and get a sun (so "cool"). A lot of teens want to really impress their peers, I'm sorry, but hey, teens are teens, and alot of them don't really see themselves as beautiful. And not only teenagers. You totally hit the nail thingamajig on the head when you say that its the tanned celebrities. Now, celebrities doesn't only mean people like Paris Hilton and such, but also that really popular lady from down the street who ruled the neighborhood and happens to be "drop-dead" gourgeous (you know, the wind blown hair, showing she's not like one of those martha steward mom's, which also includes the tan)All in all, it's just a weird thing. In a hundred years (if we're still around) we may all want to have green skin. it's fashion. and brown is in, so brown just about rules a lot of the places.Hope this helps!-T-
