Like all cities, there are good and bad areas. The area's you mention are not the best Manchester has to offer but having said that, I'm sure they're not the worst. Salford Quays is fantastic but the (ex)council housing in Salford itself is quite dire so I suppose it depends where abouts you are moving to......my friend bought a brand new house which was built in the middle of a really rough part of Salford and she had loads of trouble and ended up selling for less than she bought it for! I don't know Little Hulton at all so can't comment.
