Cinque Terre is an unbelievably beautiful and romantic location. It doesn't show up in as many brochures as Rome, Venice or Florence--but that's because there aren't massive hotels there to finance the tourism.

Another less-known but absolutely mind-blowing spot is Ferarra. Between Bologna and Venice on the train, it's a historic medieval city that has more bicycles than Amsterdam. Rent some bikes and pedal around with the locals who congregate in the town center at night to socialize, it's so great.
