I reckon he wanted to buy condoms or Playboy or something but then realised it was you and couldn't do it. He probably thought you figured he was up to something and got all nervous. (Guys get paranoid like that)

On the night out he probably thought "Oh No! There's that girl and she knows I buy porn! Damn!".. Then he was probably thinking of something to say to try and cover his tracks.
