Bastille Day has already passed on July 14th. The parade involved many regiments from the different branches of the military. Most of it is not in period dress but of current day military uniform. The mounted police are the more flashy. This years parade also involved troops represented from all EU countries. The tail end of the parade is a show and display of the arsenal including tanks, gunnery, and various other military vehicles. As well there were flyovers of air force planes and helicopter brigade. The president Nicolas Sarkozy was driven down the length of the Champs Elysees. I didn't really attend any other functions during the day. It's possible you could check the bureau of tourism for any typ of cultural events. Lastly you must attend the fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower. Usually starts around 10-11pm. It's great to view from Trocadero or Champs de Mars. There was a concert and the fireworks were fantastic! However getting home after the display is a bit of work. The classic diversional tactic by the government means that the closest subway stations were closed. I had to walk all the way from Champs de Mars to Invalides metro stop. Very chaotic!!
