Medical research has shown that most people in the U.S. do not consume adequate amounts of calcium and magnesium in their diets. More than half of all adults consume less than the RDA for these minerals.
Calcium deficiency, Magnesium deficiency, as well as other common vitamin/mineral deficiencies can contribute to or aggravate the conditions you noted. So, supplementation with these nutrients can help in those individuals with inadequate intakes or poor absorption.
A few of important points. First, these nutrients are NOT drugs. They do not relieve any symptoms unless there is an inadequate nutritional status of these nutrients (again, insufficient intakes are common).
Second, nutrients work in harmony. Your cells require ALL essential nutrients for optimum functioning. If you are deficient in one nutrient, you are likely deficient in others. Therefore, it would be appropriate to supplement with a quality complete vitamin/mineral supplement.
Finally, it is important to understand that supplements are SUPPLEMENTS. Regularly eating a diet containing healthy foods is the foundation of good health. So, in addition to supplementation, be sure to eat 5 to 9 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day, 3 servings of WHOLE grains daily, cook with quality oils (e.g. olive oil), eat healthy meats and fish (and supplement with fish oils), and drink lots of fresh water. And, of course, avoid junk foods, fast foods, and processed foods.
Best wishes and good luck.
