Well, people are brainwashed by shows on TV, what they see in magazines, etc. It's just kind of like any other bizarre belief for which there is no evidence. Some people will believe no matter what. Others have experiences that they wrongly interpret as being something paranormal, instead of being logical. I also think that some people are so stressed, etc. in some situations that they are willing to try anything.And as far as people believing that people can talk to the dead, etc, it reinforces peoples belief that that maybe there is a spirit world and an afterlife. Also, many people just do not think logically or scientifically.
