light white skin isn't very flattering.. unless you're a brunette or redhead in which case it looks nice. i really don't care about tanness (if that's even a word..) but i do like skin that has a pink golden hue to it, so a little bit of tanning is nice... but you're right, the brown and bronze are not attractive.. and will be even less attractive in 20 years when they have alligator skin!
