well i'm not a vegan but i do know that where vegetarianism is good for the environment, veganism is even better- animals take up the majority of all available farming land. Living in England we don't have alot of land to spare these days! Also, a huge amount of resources go into rearing animals for things like the grain they eat- the world's cattle alone consume a quantity of food equal to the caloric needs of 8.7 billion people—more than the entire human population on Earth. Water is wasted as firstly water must be used on the grain etc animals eat, as well as being given to the animal itself which will waste far more water than a plant will. Simialrly, energy is used up on the food of the animal and the animal itself. For cows to produce milk they must have the hormones going through their bodies telling them they are pregnant or have had a calf. Thus they must be repeatedly impregnated. I imagine you know what veal is but incase you don't it's the meat from baby cows taken from their dairy mothers after a day. they are immobilised so their flesh is always tender and fed a liquid diet low in iron so their flesh is always white. This can make them very ill and they know onlyt a few months of this terrible life before they are killed for meat. This doesnt only happen in america and any vegan could argue rightly that supporting the dairy industry would be supporting this. When a cow is no longer good for milk produstion they are usually killed. As i said i'm not vegan these were just a few reasons i could think of and if someone cared enough in america or any where else i can see why they would choose this option. hope this helped!
