I see alot of advice about letting your baby cry it out. But Please! Please! do not let your baby cry too long. Not at this age. This is a good strategy for older babies and children, but at this stage it's a Trust vs. MisTrust issue. Babies are learning that they can trust their primary care giver at this stage, and that their needs will be met. If they cry for more than 4 or 5 min and they are not attended to they realize that their needs are not going to be met. You cannot spoil a baby at this age, thy don't cry for no reason. They want to feell loved, safe and secure. Sometimes they're uncomfortable, sometimes the just want to be held. If your baby uses a soother, try putting it in the babies mouth before putting her down. If you don't want to get her hooked on the soother, try rubbing her back or hair softly and lulling her back to sleep. As the mother of a thirteen week old baby, I went through and continue to go through the same thing on occassion, and what I found was that my daughter was not in a deep enough sleep before I put her down and that's why she re awoke when I put her down. Look for little or no eye movement beneathe her lids, soft consistent breathing, limp arms and legs, then you know she's in a deep sleep.
