How to interpret a Mass Spectrometry graph? (dumbed-down version please)? I've been reading everything I can, but am having no luck working out the details of Mass Spec. Can you please give me a "dumbed-down" explanation of how this is done? I know that you use the M+ peak to = the molecular weight of the structure to be determined and that each significant peak equals parts of the structure (ex. 15 = CH3 methyl) but I'm confused about: do you only refer to the peaks with they're m.w. labeled on the top of the peak to determine the structure?how do you determine if the structure is aromatic, etc?
