I think you are on the right lines, we did try our twins at 18 months but they were just not ready and went back into cots until a couple of days after there 2nd birthday, with my third child I put her in a bed at 21 months, my fourth child is now 14 months and I'm thinking anytime from 18 months onwards. We also chose some special bedding of something they like such as fimbles or whatever your little one likes, we didnt use a bed rail but instead put the cot mattress at the side of the bed for a couple of weeks until they were used to it. It actually wasnt too hard of a transition in the end so hope it goes well for you
